Injuries, or skin cancer removal, are some of the more common reasons for nasal reconstruction. There are a couple of different procedure options available to reconstruct your nose; a thorough consultation with your doctor will help you find the best option for you.
This procedure uses available skin on the nose to close the incision, which is usually the ideal solution, as the thickness and texture of the skin will remain the same. You may be a candidate for a local flap if the wound is small enough that it can be simply covered by stretching the skin. This procedure should be undertaken a few days after the injury or cancer removal, giving the skin time to begin its healing process, and thus ensuring a better outcome for the procedure.
In some cases, the injury or missing area will be too large to be covered by a local skin flap, and the surgeon will need to relocate skin from other parts of the body. The waiting time for this process is the same as with a local flap, and this surgery is usually carried out as an outpatient procedure.
